After 33 days of military presence in the Lumad communities of Brgy. Diatagon, Lianga, Surigao del Sur by around 100 soldiers belonging to the 75th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army (IBPA), 328 Lumad families consisting of 1,607 individuals from 15 communities are currently evacuating out of their ancestral lands.
Human rights abuses have been reported committed by the military against the Lumad, including threats, harassment and intimidation, and sexual harassment against women and children. Leaders were also threatened by the military that they will face charges if they evacuate.
A total of 568 students and 48 teachers from eight community schools of TRIFPSS and ALCADEV are among those who evacuated.
The communities are within the Andap Valley Complex which President Duterte mentioned in one of his speeches as among areas that he himself will choose investors.
